In today’s fast-paced world, students are no longer just learning about technology, they are using it to create real-world impact. One such inspiring story is that of Om Nirmalkar, a young innovator who transformed from a curious middle school student into the founder of a tech-driven startup by 2025.
His journey shows how the right platform, mentorship, and passion for AI and innovation in education can empower students to achieve extraordinary milestones.
Om’s story began in Grade 8, when he participated in the AI Startup Show Juniors (formerly known as Data & AI Talks). Competing among some of the brightest young minds, he presented an AI-powered wellness solution that impressed both judges and audience. Not only did he win first place, but that moment also gave him the confidence to dream bigger and step into the world of student entrepreneurship.
By Grade 10, Om collaborated with fellow students Aayushmaan Mishra and Ayantika Mukherjee to create Blink Link, an assistive technology device that allows people with limited mobility to control their environment using just a blink.
The project was showcased at the Global Innovation Field Trip (April 2025), where it gained international recognition for its impact, simplicity, and scalability. With Blink Link, the team didn’t just design a product, they created a life-changing solution for the elderly and differently-abled community.
In 2025, while still in school, Om made the bold leap into entrepreneurship by officially becoming a startup founder. His journey reflects a powerful trend: teen entrepreneurs are no longer waiting until adulthood to innovate.
Today’s youth are building startups early, testing bold ideas, and finding solutions that address real-world problems. Om’s journey highlights how future-ready education and AI platforms can fuel student innovation.
The AI Startup Show Juniors has evolved into a powerful stage for student innovators. It helps participants:
For Om, this platform became the launchpad for his entrepreneurial journey. For other students, it continues to be the space where ideas turn into reality.
Om Nirmalkar’s journey proves that age is no barrier to innovation. From winning the AI Startup Show Juniors competition in middle school to becoming a startup founder at 15, his story reflects the limitless potential of today’s students.
